7th Grade Teams

The 7th graders will be working in teams on a variety of special projects. The students will be responsible for organizing, planning and learning applications appropriate for their team work. The Technology teacher and Language Arts teachers will guide them through their efforts.

Photographers
This group will be in charge of taking photos of SAS students, teachers and staff at school-related events as appropriate. Events will include holiday events, sporting events, special masses, special school events, student-of-week/month, field trips and more. The Photographers will edit all photos and prepare them for the school blog, web site, office display and yearbook. Photographers will also assist teachers with downloading and editing photos for school use and will work closely with the yearbook team. [Note: this team will adhere to SAS A.U.P. policy and will respect students, teachers and staff who do not want their photos taken or who do not have parental permission to have photos taken.]

Video Crew
This crew will be in charge of taking video of SAS students, teachers and staff at school-related events as appropriate. Events will include holiday events, sporting events, special masses, special school events, student-of-week/month, field trips and more. The Video Crew will edit all video clips and prepare them for the school blog, web site, and where appropriate. They will also assist teachers with downloading and editing video for school use. [Note: this team will adhere to SAS A. U. P. policy and will respect students who do not want to appear on film or who do not have parental permission to appear on film.]

Journalists
This team will be responsible for reporting on school events. Events will include holiday events, sporting events, special masses, special school events, student-of-week/month, field trips and more. The Journalists will work closely with the Language Arts teachers to edit and publish the weekly school news blog. They will also work with the photographers and video crew to include visuals for stories.

7th Grade Goals

In addition to team projects, the 7th graders will participate in a variety of technology projects where they have opportunities to engage in recommended National Education Technology Standards and Hawaii Content and Performance Standards activities.

Some of these projects will include: 1) creating articles, videos and podcasts for the bi-monthly school newsblog, 2) creating a podcast to communicate their understanding of how to evaluate web sites, 3) creating a yearbook cover to practice visual literacy/design elements, and 4) creating a personal electronic portfolio to demonstrate their technology skills.

Additionally, 7th grade goals are to 1) practice typing skills so that they correctly use both hands for typing without looking at the keyboard, 2) log on and off the computer efficiently, 3) quit applications successfully, 4) save files successfully and understand where they are located, 5) open files, 6) follow instructions, 7) assist others with applications, 8) log onto web sites using a URL, 9) use computer shortcuts, and to 10) and to express themselves and the content they have learned through the use of design applications, GarageBand, ComicLife, MSWord, PowerPoint, MSExcel, iMovie and blogging.

The projects and activities that the 7th graders will be involved in will help them develop an appreciation for the use of technology as a tool for learning, communication, research and creativity. They will gain the skills necessary to enable them to be fully engaged digital citizens who use technology wisely.

Additionally, 7th graders will be given ample opportunities to practice their skills using MSWord, MSExcel, blogging applications, GarageBand, web site apps, design apps, iMovie, iPhoto, Photobooth, ComicLife, etc. The ulimate goal is that through extensive use of these applications the students will develop the self confidence to navigate and use any software they come across.
