On Film!
This year the 8th Graders will create their own videos which will air on Olelo Television! They will work in teams of three to create community related shows, PSAs, feature films or mini-documentaries.
Olelo professional film crew will train the students on video equipment and editing applications. Students will learn how to create storyboards and film-making techniques. They will work closely with Language Arts and Compuer teachers to produce content-rich film shorts. This will truly be an exciting project.
Stay tuned for more details!
8th Grade Goals
In addition to Olelo, the 8th graders will participate in a variety of technology projects where they have opportunities to engage in recommended National Education Technology Standards and Hawaii Content and Performance Standards activities.
Some of these projects will include: 1) creating podcasts to communicate their understanding of how to evaluate websites, 2) creating video PSAs to communicate informative messages via public television, 3) creating a yearbook to express their understanding of visual literacy/design elements, 4) creating a personal portfolio to demonstrate their technology skills.
The projects and activities that the 8th graders will be involved in will help them develop an appreciation for the use of technology as a tool for learning, communication, research and creativity. They will gain the skills necessary to enable them to be fully engaged digital citizens who use technology wisely.
Additionally, 8th graders will be given ample opportunities to practice their skills using MSWord, MSExcel, blogging applications, GarageBand, web site apps, design apps, FinalCut Express, iPhoto, Photobooth, ComicLife, etc. The ultimate goal is that through extensive use of these applications the students will develop the self confidence to navigate and use any software they come across.
