K through 6th Grade
The K through 6th graders will participate in a variety of technology projects where they have opportunities to engage in recommended National Education Technology Standards and Hawaii Content and Performance Standards activities.
The projects and activities that these students will be involved in will help them develop an appreciation for the use of technology as a tool for learning, communication, research and creativity. They will gain the skills necessary to enable them to be fully engaged digital citizens who use technology wisely.
Additionally, upper elementary students will be given opportunities to practice their skills using MSWord, MSExcel, blogging applications, GarageBand, PowerPoint, design apps, iMovie, iPhoto, Photobooth, ComicLife, etc. The ultimate goal is that through extensive use of these applications the students will develop the self confidence to navigate and use any software they come across. Lower elementary students will practice their skills using MSWord, GarageBand, design apps, Photobooth, ComicLife, and some iMovie and PowerPoint.
Goals by Grade Levels:
Kindergarten: the goals for K students are to 1) develop an understanding of basic computer terms and functions such as keyboard, mouse, monitor/screen, hard drive, printer, 2) begin practicing typing skills, 3) log on and off the computer, 4) quit applications, 5) save files, 6) open files, and ultimately, to 7) follow instructions. Additionally, students will learn how to express themselves and content they have learned through the use of design applications.
1st Grade: the goals for 1st grade students are to 1) review their understanding of basic computer terms and functions such as keyboard, mouse, monitor/screen, hard drive, printer, 2) practice typing skills without looking at the keyboard, 3) log on and off the computer, 4) quit applications, 5) save files, 6) open files, and ultimately, to 7) follow instructions. Additionally, students will learn how to express themselves and content they have learned through the use of design applications.
2nd Grade: the goals for 2nd grade students are to 1) practice typing skills so that they correctly use both hands for typing, 2) log on and off the computer efficiently, 3) quit applications successfully, 4) save files successfully and understand where they are located, 5) open files, 6) follow instructions, 7) assist others with applications, 8) log onto web sites using a URL, and to 9) express themselves and the content they have learned through the use of design applications, GarageBand, ComicLife, and MSWord.

6th Grade: the goals for 6th grade students are to 1) practice typing skills so that they correctly use both hands for typing without looking at the keyboard, 2) log on and off the computer efficiently, 3) quit applications successfully, 4) save files successfully and understand where they are located, 5) open files, 6) follow instructions, 7) assist others with applications, 8) log onto web sites using a URL, 9) use computer shortcuts, and to 10) and to express themselves and the content they have learned through the use of design applications, GarageBand, ComicLife, MSWord, PowerPoint, MSExcel, iMovie and blogging.
